Pusillanimous

It’s interesting isn’t it?

Two republicans have dropped out of the race because God told them to get in and then God told them to get out.

Right there on live television they lie.  And they are incredible, massively audacious, thundering lies. There has never been more effrontery.

These motherfuckers.

The entire GOP is completely bereft of anything at all.

Anything at all.

Then there’s us.

If you don’t support Hillary, you’re a he-man woman hater.  A chauvinist.  You  bristle at her pantsuits or criticize her for big bad Bill’s blow jobs.  She shamelessly milked that the other night. Waiting for the swinging dicks and the feminists to clash.  She’s a corporate trollop and a hawk.  She has mad skills.

It’s not untrue.

Or, because you dare to hope a consistent man of integrity like Bernie Sanders has a chance of finally breaking the forty year grip of neoconservative and neoliberal fuckery, well then you must just be looking to suck a fart out of a unicorns ass.  Because he’s a grumpy loser who’s never accomplished anything.  Because he’s a “socialist” and too radical.  He’s a populist.

It’s not untrue.

Like this is some sports rivalry.

The pregame for the democratic debate the other night might as well have been produced for the goddamn Superbowl. I was offended.  I was thoroughly nonplussed by Cheryl Crow singing the national anthem.   It’s what’s on TV so what the hell. It had tremendous production value.  I was expecting a prize fight and tons of blood.  I didn’t get that.

Social media is a petri dish for this nonsense.

There’s no way left to get the masses to understand that we’re all in the same boat.

Liberals are just as goddamn dumb as conservatives and the corollary is that democrats are no longer different in any meaningful way than republicans. Yes, the democratic debate was classier and far less callow.  But it’s over and not one thing has changed. There is no better evidence than assholes from both parties acting and responding in exactly the same way. Like it’s recess on the playground.  It not the democratic debate this that proves this, it’s the obsession with who won.

It occurs to me that the entire point of a political debate is not whether there is a winner or a loser, but rather how the game was played.  In other words, how good you looked.  The problem is with the immaturity of the electorate.

They can’t all be assholes.

Drinks for my friends.

An interesting perspective and enjoyable as always, Mr. Douglass, but I disagree on a couple of points.

“Democrats are no longer different in any meaningful way than republicans.” As a woman, I must disagree. If you’re heterosexual, Michael, you haven’t been directly attacked by the unending threat of one party legislating your sex life, your choices and you and your daughters’ futures. Count your privileged blessings. In the first quarter of 2015, Republicans in all 50 states collectively introduced 332 provisions aimed at restricting abortion and contraceptive services compared to 335 during the entire 2014 legislative session, according to the Guttmacher Institute. One party wants to control the sex lives of over half the U.S. population, virtually enslaving many women to unwanted procreation (or worse), creating in its wake even more single parents, more hunger, more neglect and more abuse of mommy and/or children. One party is making a dedicated effort to grow the hopeless masses that work their crappy, no-minimum-wage jobs by demonizing the poor, creating more families who can’t afford to have more children – on more levels than just the financial. One entire party is in servitude to several dozen assholes who won’t be satisfied until our seniors, veterans and minimum wage workers are subsisting on dog and cat food to stay alive while we pay their wealthy, tax money-loving corporations to screw and poison us. A party who won’t be satisfied until all those immigrants with dark skin are jailed or preferably, publicly executed. And profitably would be even better.

I think I get your cynicism. After all, didn’t we all notice how the problems associated with illegal immigration never used to make conservatives’ Top Ten lists until they were ‘Trumped’? Now his Trumpets proudly blare the horrors of Mexican terrorism, with its rapists and drug pushers, in concert. Women’s sex lives remain the top Conservative threat, judging from the amount of new legislation. But these ‘evils’ are much easier to fire up a largely-uneducated and highly-emotional constituency than topics like income equality, an unmanaged, irresponsible military budget (that’s not all about defense) or the world we’re rendering uninhabitable so that Duke Energy and others won’t be forced to clean up after themselves. What’s Trump’s stance on guns? Republicans don’t want to talk about genuine problems.

“Not one thing has changed (since the debate).” Of course it hasn’t. I’m no historian, I’ll grant you, but other than the Kennedy-Nixon debate, has any other had a truly significant impact in changing voters’ minds? (Honest question – I truly don’t know.)

“There is no better evidence than assholes from both parties acting and responding in exactly the same way.” Again, I disagree. The obsession with who won? I don’t blame Democrats. I blame the largely Republican-owned media. Focus groups and potential voters seemed to form a consensus in contradiction to the media’s results. Republicans are in a whack-a-mole game with candidates popping up to out-outlandish one another for that sweet, sweet media attention. Democrats’ statements, by comparison, are well-considered and based in reason. The Republican dog and pony show will get worse even if Trump eventually does drop out. Many/Most of their followers refuse to accept verified facts as truth, their minds are decided and they have no tolerance for reality. Trump could be caught red-handed burning the ‘Murican flag while doing a Nazi salute and goose-stepping, but they’d still adore him. He personifies their misguided rage.

Either way, pass the popcorn, my friend. It’s gonna be a long, long year.
